Why do I want toads inside carved pumpkins?
Simple because 22 lives are lost every 10 seconds on the world's roads! And while a wide variety of reasons are and will be found in this horrifying statistic - human error is involved in almost all of 'em if not all!
Yes, they are waiting for toads! |
While the B'Cane brothers' latest outing might have put forward some sort of explanation. I outright think bad drivers should not be allowed on the road.
'Bad' should be defined for each aspect of driving, people on the road need to be evaluated, and offenders turned to toads. Without mercy, merci!
For starters we could attempt to define the principal causes for loss of life: -
Bad Driving:
- Any person who is unable to adhere to lane, speed limit;
- Unable to digest the fact that a pedestrian's life gain precedence over a dinner meeting;
- Unable to heed or maybe understand road signs, dashboard warnings, common sense et al.
Unsafe Vehicle:
- This is a pretty simple list, any vehicle that is not capable of braking effectively and stopping is unsafe. Period!
The Penalty: Here too, the measures I propose could need more technological advancements but I believe these would act as absolute deterrents.
- Bad Driving once proved - will mandate the person behind the wheels be turned into a toad. With exciting advancements in the fields of life sciences and engineering, I really hope we build therianthrope machines.
- Unsafe Vehicles once detected - will be turned into BIW themed Halloween pumpkins. Period.
ADAS to the Rescue
Advanced Driving Assistance Systems are truly revolutionary for vehicular safety. As in they function across the three modes of automotive motion - acceleration, steering, and braking.
ADAS systems perform a wide range of functions that include but are not limited to: -
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Hill Descent Control
- Lane Departure Warning
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Platooning
- Lane Change Prevention
- Traffic Jam Pilot
- Collision Avoidance, and more........
The list goes on and covers the entire probable spaces that an automotive will inhabit and perform.
Another qualm would be regulatory compliance, we need to catch up with technology advancements, and not become a purgatory that stifles innovation.
What encourages further is that in the future trends in automotive, we witnessed that ADAS adoption will meet and beat estimates.
The entire ecosystem will be primed toward active safety. I look forward and hope for: -
A future with driverless cars,
Roads with no accidents,
